Today’s recipe is straight out of my Nana’s recipe collection. An old fashioned chocolate icing that we have loved for years.

Why is it Called 1 Minute Icing?

Contrary to the name, this frosting recipe does take longer than 1 minute to make. But not much more!

It is called 1 Minute Icing because you cook the milk, butter, and cocoa on the stove top, bringing the mixture to a boil for 1 minute.

The Steps to make this yummy chocolate icing are easy. Here they are:

What’s the Difference Between Frosting and Icing?

Frosting is generally fluffier, has more butter, and can hold its shape. That’s why it is great for cupcakes and decorations such as flowers.

Icing is a bit thinner, as it is not beaten, and has less butter. It is often sweeter. It is glossier in appearance, too.

This Easy Chocolate 1 Minute Icing recipe is cooked on the stove for 1 minute before adding the sugar, then poured, not spread, over the cake.

Once you pour the icing over the cake, you won’t have much time to work with it as it will set up pretty quickly.

It’s not meant to be spread, but you can get away with a little as soon as it hits the cake so you can cover the whole surface.

After it cools it sets to a nice consistency and has a glossy look to it.

I have a party of 40 guests for this evening. I had made 2 desserts and it took all day to make them. In the end, I was very unhappy with the way they turned out. What did I do? Made a big pan of brownies and made this frosting for the first time. It was easy and I had all the ingredients at home. Everyone loved it! I will definitely make it again…easy and delishious!
