Equipment to Make This Recipe
• Baking Pan
• Aluminum Foil
Ingredients for Glazed Ham
• 7-9 lb Ham – Spiral Cut, Bone-in Ham (half ham)
• Dijon Mustard – or Spicy Mustard
• Pineapple Juice – or Orange Juice
Brown Sugar Glaze
In addition to your ham, you only need a handful of ingredients to make this homemade ham glaze. It doesn’t get much easier!
This is an easy ham glaze recipe, and you can customize it to your taste.
• Pineapple Juice – or Orange Juice
• Brown Sugar – Light or dark brown sugar
• Dijon Mustard – or Spicy Mustard
• Ground Ginger – You can also use fresh grated.
• Cornstarch – To thicken the glaze
Can I Use a Boneless Ham?
Yes, though a boneless ham is not usually spiral cut. Score the top in a diamond pattern with a sharp knife so the glaze gets in there.
How Long To Cook A Spiral-Sliced Ham?
- How long to cook ham in the oven: Since most hams are precooked, you'll want to cook them until they reach an internal ham temperature of 140 degrees F, when measured at the thickest part of the ham.
- For the average 7-10 pound ham, this will take about 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Approximately 12 minutes of cook time per pound for this brown sugar ham is a good guideline, but be sure to double check the internal temperature with a meat thermometer.
How to Make this Spiral-Cut Ham Recipe
- Preheat oven to 325°F.
- Combine Dijon mustard and pineapple juice. Brush over ham.
- If your ham has a plastic disk on the bone, it needs to be removed and discarded. Place ham, flat side down in a roasting pan, and cover tightly with foil. Roast 12-15 minutes per pound (or according to package directions).
- Meanwhile, combine glaze ingredients and bring to a boil. Turn heat down to low and simmer 5-10 minutes until it has reduced and thickened. Let it cool.
- The glaze is added towards the end of cooking, and it gets nice and caramelized on the outside. 15 minutes before the ham is done, remove from the oven and turn the oven up to 425°F.
- Brush the entire ham with the glaze and return to the oven uncovered, until the glaze is caramelized and the ham has reached the safe cook temperature.
- Let the ham rest about 10-15 minutes before serving.
How To Glaze A Spiral Cut Ham
Notes
If you purchase a smoked ham, it is a precooked ham, but be sure to check the package to ensure it says it is a "fully cooked ham." If it is a fully-cooked ham, it will say it on the package (most spiral hams are), it will need to cook to 140°F (basically just to heat it).
Storing Leftover Ham
Keep the leftover ham bone for soup or beans!
• Store leftovers, tightly covered in an airtight container, in refrigerator for 2-3 days.
• Freeze for 1-2 months. I recommend wrapping in plastic wrap, then placing in a freezer style bag. Try to get as much air out as possible.
